It was during the year 1974 when Sanrio, well renowned Japanese Company, asked their designer named Ikuko Shimizu to delve in the folds of her artistic abilities and create a fictional cartoon character that would capture not only the young girl’s hearts but also the whole of Japan as well.
For the reason that Sanrio had already exhausted the bear and dog as characters of their products, they needed a new character that would set off their products in the Japanese market. The first of the designer’s creations that was produced by the company was a plastic coin purse with a white female furry cat with a huge red bow and dressed in blue overalls. This became a hit cartoon character for the Sanrio Company. After that huge success, they then proceeded to creating other line of products with the Hello Kitty emblem on it. Of the female fanatics of Hello Kitty, they were enticed by the jewelry line of products most particularly the Hello Kitty necklace.
The Sanrio Company was able to successfully create not only an image that oozed cuteness. It was the picture of all the good attributes rolled into one—Hello Kitty. Over the years the character has gone to other parts of the world bringing much fame to the company. The female sexual category has been so into the character that the Hello Kitty pieces sold by the company became collectibles used proudly and at times pompously, even, by little girls. These items were even used for barter and exchange with their fellow playmates. However for the Hello Kitty jewelry, the Hello Kitty necklace was the one that was most famous.
The company did not just manufacture a product but somehow created a prominent fashion figure that became a trademark that has spread so much that it was earning more than the company ever dreamed of earning. Little girls from all around the world fell head over heels in love with the Hello Kitty necklace. The idea of being able to wear the face of the famed character on their very chest became a fashion that never went out of style. Even full grown women who never really outgrew the character would purchase a gold chain and actually spend a few thousand dollars to order well made and expensive Hello Kitty pendants.
