The most famous Balenciaga wedge shoe is in fact a shoe that’s closed and laces up. It was a very expensive little item that cost almost $600, but can be found on sale at Browns for about $300. And lots of the colorful Balenciaga wedge shoes and boots are now on sale all over the place. I don’t know if that means they are coming out with a new line that will kill the last collection (and is somewhere in a secret vault) or if the boots and pumps with large suede heels didn’t go over too well. I can’t imagine that, since everyone who was anyone had a pair….but maybe that’s just it….everyone has them so Balenciaga changed…and what a change……for the worse.
The Downfall of the Balenciaga Feminine Wedge
This season Balenciaga has gone with a lower moccasin style wedge, if you can even call it a wedge at all, and in the other extreme massive suede platform wedges and boots that are much less wedgy than previously. I have loved some of the Balenciaga ladies shoes in the past, but while the rest of the world seems to be going for a more feminine shape and style in their shoe and sandal designs, Balenciaga has opted to go with moccasins and slippers and shaggy oversized boots and stiletto heels. So I have to say that the best Balenciaga wedge shoe designs are a thing of the past. But if you like stripped blue and orange flat wedges sandals and shapeless gladiator sandals and heavy boots with square toes, then feel free to shop at your nearest boutique and pay between $300 to $700 for the creations.
What to Do with $700 in my Shoe Budget
I will continue to love the old wedge shoes that the famous designer made a couple years ago and wait until they are considered vintage. Frankly, if I’m going to spend $700 I’d rather buy a wild and fun Giuseppe Zanotti wedge that still has some sexy feminine appeal than the latest Balenciaga. But that’s just my opinion.
