Spice Up Your Wardrobe With Animal Prints

April 26th, 2010

Many things in fashion fall into and out of style; others are timeless classics.  One of these classic fashions are animals prints, and lately they are seeing a real push to the forefront of fashion as an interesting way to spice up any wardrobe.

Animal prints are appealing because they are bold and interesting.  Nature has provided us with a beautiful array of colors and patterns to play with.  Many of these prints come from the iconic animals of Africa, including zebra, cheetah, and giraffe prints.  One thing to keep in mind with all of these animal patterns (or any pattern, for that matter)  is that you don’t want to overdue it.  One animal print item is enough to add a little punch to any outfit.

Zebra print is classic because it is the elegant combination of black and white.  When you think black and white, you think class.  If you add that to the wild style of zebra you get quite a combination.  A zebra striped accessory can make any boring black dress pop.  You can get really wild with zebra print if you choose an unnatural color combination like black and pink.

When you think cheetahs, you think speed.  Cheetah print is fast and wild and its boldly outlined spots really pop.  Closely related to this pattern is the leopard print.  Both of these patterns, stemming from wild cats, show a bit of power and grace.  With this pattern, a little goes a long way.  Try accessorizing with this pattern using a cheetah purse or clutch.

The most understated, and often overlooked animal pattern is the giraffe print.  Its chunky brown spots on a sea of tan are interesting without making too wild of a fashion statement.  If you’re just getting into animal print fashions, try starting out with a simple giraffe print.  You can accessorize this pattern with natural wood jewelry for an earthy look.

These are the main patterns found in fashion.  When choosing animal prints, stay true to your style, and don’t go overboard.  You can easily go from looking hot and wild, to freakishly unappealing if you over do it.
