Just when you think you’ve heard of everything, along comes something called junk food clothing. I know, I had a hard time imagining just what that could be, but it’s not as gross as it sounds. It’s really just some popular urban styled clothing with styled logos of different kinds of junk food on it. I know, I was imagining all sorts of weird stuff, like shirts and shorts made out of old candy wrappers, or bubble gum baseball hats, but that would just be far too silly. Not that I have a problem with silly fun fashion, but even I have some limits.
Personally I’d prefer to walk around wearing Famous Stars and Straps t shirts type gear. It’s great for guys and gals. Kind of like the Religion t shirt I’ve been seeing so many peole wearing lately. My kids like the stuff as well. And though some of them are not that fashion conscious, I have one who is hard core serious when it comes to what she is willing to wear. As long as she doesn’t catch me wearing some of the same stuff then it’s all pretty cool. The other thing I link about this fashion stuff is that it get’s other peoples attention. While I personally don’t draw a lot of attention with my looks and shape, I know if I pick the right clothing I’ll get all the attention I need.

It’s odd how a bit of technology, mass acceptance and a few decades can change the way we view things. I grew up in my formative years about the time that computers were beginning to enter our homes. I was always a bit of an outsider kid, that really only fit in with a few fringe crowds. Computers happened to be one of those fringes, so obviously it was an attraction to me. Back in those days, being a geek was certainly no badge of courage, and certainly not something that would get you into the “in” crowd. None the less, I began exploring the world of computers, taught myself to write programs in basic on a old Radio Shack TRS-80 computer. Eventually, I graduated to a Commodore 64, but that was still a long way before the world wide web would become mainstream.
Fast forward a few years, and I’m a regular working guy in the IT department at our local university. The internet is beginning to hit it’s stride, at least at the university level it is. The academics were one of the early adopters of the world wide web. Great for sharing research and contacting distant colleagues. It was here in an introductory to web design and HTML that I really started to learn about the inner workings of the web. It’s a lesson I never forgot, and one that got me started towards working in the much more geek friendly and fashionable world of websites.

There is something really unique about handmade jewelry that makes it different than all other type of jewelry. For one thing, it is a personal creation that is one-of-a-kind. Maybe the handmade jewelry you design is not original in style, but you can certainly add a little of this and a little of that to make the design all your own. So how does one go about making handmade jewelry? Is it an art or a science? Although I am not an artisan myself, I can tell you a few things you need to do in order to get on track to be a handmade jewelry specialist or just a hobbyist.
The first thing you need to do is find a handmade jewelry artisan who is in your area or one who offers an online course. There are so many principles that need to be understood before you bead your first bracelet, wire your first necklace, or refine your first silver jewelry bangle. The things I am referring to have a lot to do with understanding the culture behind handmade jewelry and why it is truly an art, not a science. Yes, there are a lot of scientific components to silver and a great deal of physics that go into beading, but most of the “heavy lifting” as they say comes from the pure desire to make jewelry that speaks to your heart.
The one thing I want to caution you about is trying to be an artisan or a handmade jewelry professional only for the money. To be honest, some artisans perform their craft only as a hobby as well as a way to supplement their income. In fact, few artisans can claim that they make millions making handmade jewelry. That does not mean that you can’t do it, but you need to go into it with the perspective that you are doing this for the experience, not just the money. If you make money then great! But if you don’t make money, you will feel disappointed unless you have the right perspective.
