Fire Resistant Merino Wool Sweaters

March 11th, 2010

One of the finest ways to ensure warmth in winters is merino wool sweaters. This wool is finer than traditional wools and provides insulation, breath ability, moisture management, safety, comfort and no odor. Merino wool is taken from merino sheep and is long, staple fine wool.

You will be surprised to learn that each merino wool fleece contains over 100 million individual fibres and that’s why a merino sweater is finer than most other wools and can feel like silk. Of all the fibres merino is the most hydrophilic.

There is no itchiness caused by the sweaters made of merino wool because the merino fiber is fraction of a diameter.

The synthetic fiber such as polypropylene or polyester which has a much simpler structure and are made from melting, extruding and setting a petrochemical-based product; the fiber does not have the ability to breathe, absorb or release fiber.

Merino wool has the ability to absorb and release moisture, to keep the body warm or cool, thus the temperature is regulated. Also in the sweater made from merino wool one warms up but there are no chances of overheating due to exceptional breathing of the fabric.

Some of the many benefits of merino wool sweaters are that they are fire resistant. Presence of keratin in merino keeps these garments naturally fire resistant and so they neither melt nor burn. Not only this it also protects from the sun with a sun protection factor.

Proper care must be given to merino wool sweaters. They must be washed carefully and water should be squeezed out. The sweater must not be wrung out as it could lead to distortion of design and the fiber of the sweater. Even storing of the sweater should be carefully done.

These sweaters must be stored carefully in order to keep moths at bay. They essentially should be stored in lavender sachet or cedar packs.
