Dressing tables are probably one of the more underrated pieces of bedroom furniture a girl can buy. If you are in the market for one then undoubtedly you are one of the smarter folk out there. I’m not entirely sure why the dressing table isnt as popular as it once was; ironically as a people we are probably more vain today than we have ever been and what better way to celebrate that vanity than by sitting in front of the dressing table mirror making yourself beautiful for a big night out, or drying you hair after luxuriating in a hot bath?
I think for many the root of the problem lies with the image of the dressing table. After all its been with us in one form or another since the French first conceived of them in the 17th Century; from their they were adopted by the ladies of Victorian England and have perhaps been associated with ‘stuffy old maids’ ever since; shunned by the modern upcoming woman about town.
Fortunately however, the dressing table has come along way since its historical origins and you can find them in variety of different styles and materials and finishes that are both traditional and contemporary. You can choose from the Double pedestal, single pedestal or console table style; all of which offer a great amount of storage with the double pedestal dressing table being the largest (thanks to its 2 columns of drawers on either of the table).
The solid wood option is highly recommended with a choice of Pine, Oak or Ash guaranteed to offer a sturdy piece of furniture that will last for a long time and when combined with a huge array of wax finishes is guaranteed to complement a traditional bedroom just perfectly. If you are after a more modern design table then you choose you have your dressing table painted or for the really adventurous you can find contemporary designs in metallic or chrome finishes.
Overall the the dressing table is probably undeserving of its old-fashioned rep and ladies, if you haven’t got one you are definitely missing a trick.
